instrumentation: Guitar and Electronics

of line is the first movement of what is a 55 minute soundtrack for a durational performance piece titled End Of Line. The work is a collaboration between myself, the visual artist Goshka Macuga and choreographer Mbulelo Ndabeni in association with Rambert dance. The installation includes two 4.5m motorised tables and a duet of dancers who move in relation to the tables created by Macuga. We spent several weeks working together in Goshka's London studio devising the piece. The motors of the tables have a distinctive tone and i wrote the piece in key with the machinery so that during the live performance they become part of the instrumentation.

We premiered*End of Line at the David Roberts Foundation alongside works by Mark Wallinger, Roman Ondak, Amalia Ulman and Mary Hurrell in October 2016. The work then transferred to the Lowry in Manchester as part of Perpetual Motion. Performances take place every weekend, between the 29th of October and 26th February 2017.

Perpetual Movement is an exhibition showcasing the relationship between contemporary dance and contemporary art by celebrating Rambert’s 90th anniversary through four international artists working in a range of mediums, each responding differently to the inspiration of contemporary dance, alongside a carefully curated selection of objects.
